"Unseen Lines" text detail (c) Dianne Bowen
Drawing is like taking a line out for a dance, sometimes it's a heavy metal slam dance, sometimes it's as structured as a waltz, and sometimes it's a virgina reel and I'm just switching hands and partners, pencil, paint, paper, film...

An artist's journey making sense of the world through art, language and conversation.

One Of A Kind: Unique Artist's Books
Curated by Heide Hatry

Experimental and inventive, these unique artist’s books are revealed in all their power and vulnerability. International artist, former rare books seller, and maker of unique artist’s books found in international art museums, Heide Hatry curates a collection of artist’s books that give voice to the soul of this most intimate and eloquent of objects. Declaring Kafka’s injunction that a book must be an ice-axe to break the frozen seas of our souls, Hatry posits the exhibition as a way to identify and explore the social force and spiritual dimensions of the book in an age of mass publishing in which the form itself is widely perceived as being in decline. It is an apt time to permit the book to speak on its own behalf, in all its breadth and depth, and to reassert the fundamental interior act by which a creator relates to another being.

Participating Artists Include:

Roberta Allen, Tatjana Bergelt, Elena Berriolo, Star Black, Christine Bofinger, Dianne Bowen, Dove Bradshaw, Inge Bruggeman, Chrissy Conant, Steven Daiber, George Deem, Peter Downsbrough, Max Gimblett, Chie Hasegawa, Heide Hatry, Laura Hatry, Betty Hirst, Richard Humann, Iliyan Ivanov, Paul* M. Kaestner, Nicholas Kahn & Richard Selesnick, Bodo Korsig, Richard Kostelanetz, Christina Kruse, Andrea Lange, Nick Lawrence, Gregg LeFevre, Annette Lemieux, Stephen Lipman, Larry Miller, Kate Millett,Roberta Paul, Jim Peters and Kathline Carr, Herbert Pfostl, Raquel Rabinovich, Aviva Rahmani, Osmo Rauhala, Tom Roth, Elsbeth Sachs, Claudia Sbrissa, Cheryl Schainfeld, Carolee Schneemann, Ilse Schreiber-Noll, Pat Steir, Aldo Tambellini, Sharone Vendringer, Maria Viviano, Lewis Warsh, Clemens Weiss, Mark Wiener, Ottfried Zielke.

New Work Published in Maintenant: Dada Journal, March 20, 2013

It is with great pleasure, I announce a piece of my work with associated writing has been published in the new issue of Maintenant, published by Three Rooms Press on pages 46-47.

The piece "Born In Whirl Wind, Unravelling", was created specifically for this issue.  The three images represent stages in the drawings progress. As I draw and write simultaneously in process of creating the work, the associated note poem relates to the movement in the visual work. While both bare influence on the other, they're two expressions of an idea.

About Maintenant

Maintenant is an annual journal that features the most significant contemporary dada poetry and art from around the world. Inspired by the original Maintenant, an irreverent and risk-taking ‘zine published, edited and allegedly written by Arthur Cravan from 1913-1917, the Three Rooms Press editions aim to bring to light cutting-edge poetry and art that stems from this original spirit. Since 2005, Three Rooms Press’ Maintenant has developed an international reputation as a primary source for Dada work by well-known and emerging artists. Submissions are accepted from December 15 through January 31 and the journal is published in March.
